Induction Date Set

Today's regular OB appointment didn't go so well.

First off I checked in.  I get my vitals checked by the nurse

Right arm BP: 163/88
Left arm BP: 152/95
Weight:  still no extra gained.  I've only gained a whole 2 pounds for this pregnancy.

I go back to the waiting room.  Another nurse calls me back and says that they will schedule me for Labor and Delivery for Friday.
I said:  "WHAT!?"  "NOOOOO"
Then she clarified that it was for the non stress test since it falls on a holiday.  Phew okay I'll be fine just have to get my heart back out of my throat.
Since we don't have time for the non stress test before the doctor we head back to the waiting room.

Next nurse calls me back.

Doctor Canady told me after looking over my chart that  this means he is taking the baby early.  Um, yeah I know I figured as much.  His words were: "We need to end this pregnancy now."  He said if I don't pass the non stress test today he would do it today.  Luckily I passed the non stress test and the BPP (biophysical profile) ultrasound too.

Next non stress test is set for Friday.  If I pass that one then we are going with a scheduled induction for Sunday at exactly 37 weeks.

So glad the nursery is all set up and that I bought plenty of newborn clothes for baby girl.  We are prepared for the most part.  Still chokes me up a lot to know that she has to be born three weeks early because as the doctor said it is not the baby they are worried about losing it is me.  I want to be there for her.

So I'm going to work a bit more on her scrap book today since I have new ultrasound photos to put in the book.  Still waiting on the maternity photos from the session.  My photographer went on vacation and is suing someone right now which means that things are a bit behind schedule.

If I remember I'll let you all know how it goes on Friday, in-between I still have one last appointment on Thursday with my Perinatologist.

  2. I hope it helps you to hear a success story: I had my daughter suddenly at 36 weeks 5 days. It was similar as you are describing - you go to the dr and they say go to the hospital! I had pre-eclampsia, although they think it was related to a poorly performing placenta and not a previous history of my own. They were worried about losing me, but also the baby had gone from the 25% weight-wise to the 10% range in less than 2 weeks. I had to have a c-section due to placenta previa, and I'm thankful for that because it also turned out that I had placenta acreta as well. The baby did great though, even though they said the placenta looked horrible. There was a chance that she would need the NICU, however we were extraordinarily lucky that she ended up ok. She was tiny (5 lb 3 oz at almost 36 wks 5 days), but she was a fighter.

Hang in there! And good luck!!

    1. I'm hoping that Baby Girl won't need the NICU here because it is only a level 1.

  3. What was so bad about your appt? Sounds like you're going to make it to 37 weeks without too many issues! 37 weeks is awesome!

    1. Kat, nothing was bad. Baby Girl is doing really well. If there was anything bad it was my health and that is what they are worried about. They warned J today that they are worried about a stroke or coma as my blood pressure is now reaching critical with me already being on Labetalol. But they increased the dosage by 100 mg to 500mg a day so hopefully that will help.

    1. Steph, I've been on blood pressure meds for 5 years and those numbers were with me already being on Labetalol dosage of 400 mg daily. Labetalol is a combination Alpha and Beta blocker.

  9. Don't worry about 37 weeks - it is full term. I had no medical issues , other than a previous myomectomy that necessitated having my c-section between 37-38 weeks and while I was not thrilled, I was not overtly worried. They told me there may be a very small chance she may need NICU for a day or so but expected her to come home with me. She did not need it! You are in my thoughts - all the best!
