Trying to Keep A Daily Food Goal

Yesterday:

4 large egg whites with salt, pepper, 2 TBSP grated cheese, and ketchup

1 small 100 calorie whole wheat bagel with cream cheese

8 ounces V-8 Fusion 100% juice

3 granola bars

1/4 cup mixed lightly salted nuts

1 cup Choibani Greek yogurt with 1/2 strawberries lightly sweetened

1 baked fish patty with sesame bun and mayonaise

64-90 ounces of water

After eating all that, the last granola bar was at 2030 hrs, I was stuffed.

I got on the scale this morning, I weigh myself every morning, hoping to see I'd possibly gained a bit of weight or at least stayed the same.  Nope!  I lost 0.8 pounds.

I guess I can say that the baby is still alive and eating a lot of the nutrients I'm pushing into my body.  If I wasn't fat I would really start to worry about the fact that I'm losing weight.  I have to stop and realize that I'll probably be only allowed to gain at maximum 20 pounds.

I will continue to eat healthy.  This morning I scrambled another 4 large egg whites and had a bagel with cream cheese on the side.  I am trying.  I need to find room in my stomach to put in more veggies.

Madigan has screwed up my OB schedule but good.  This week I had to play advocate for myself and schedule the Nuchal Translucency scan.  I have yet to actually meet my assigned OB and won't until the 24th of this month.

I should have had my OB intake seminar by week 8 or 9 and here it will be 12 weeks and 2 days by the time I have it.  Though I'm not keen on lectures unless it is going towards my degree plan I know I have to attend the lecture and turn in paperwork.  I'm just hoping they don't lose the paperwork.  I'll be pcsing in the early part of Spring.

I'll leave you all with a photo of Bugsy curled up on J's jeans.   Oh and if any of you have an idea on how I can actually gain weight during the second and third trimester please let me know.  I want to do it in a healthy manner and not stuff myself full of bad for me foods.

  1. Just continue to eat healthy and your body will do what is supposed to. With my pregnancy I didn't start gaining till 24 weeks and only gained 16 pounds total. Baby came out a healthy 8 pounds! I have heard lots of stories with ladies gaining even less and the babies always come out healthy weight. Congrats on the pregnancy! :)

    1. My mom gained 19 pound for me by month 8. Month 9 just before I was born she lost 2 pounds. She had the morning sickness all throughout her pregnancy. I weighed 6 pounds 4 ounces at birth which is pretty good.

  2. I wouldn't worry about too much about losing weight right now.... I'm pregnant with twins and lost 7 lbs the first trimester. I don't think it was until 15-16 weeks that I actually started to gain weight....once the babies got bigger and my belly actually started expanding. Just keep up with the healthy eating...it sounds like you're doing great so far! My OB assured me that "the babies will take what they need from you".

    1. Thanks for reassuring me. My FIL called last night and was a bit concerned that I had yet to gain and am still losing weight.

  3. I think it's all up to genetics when it comes to pregnancy weight gain, or maybe just luck. I honestly didn't gain a single pound with V until the end of the second trimester, and I suddenly started putting on a pound a week. I didn't change anything about my diet, just ate whatever I wanted, and it evened out. Try not to worry about it too much. Maybe you could add more protein, since you have to watch your glucose levels protein shouldn't do too much harm from my understanding? Or more veggies. I'm really not an expert though, obviously... I hope that things even themselves out without too much worry. Try not to stress it right now and keep taking it one day at a time.

    1. Last night I splurged a bit as I was hungry for a change with a bit less nausea so I ate an entire package (3 or 4 serving size) of frozen veggies.

  4. In both of my pregnancies, I didn't gain much at all in the first trimester and I didn't alter any of my eating except to cut out certain foods. You should be okay for a little while more. By week 16, you should be gaining weight I bet. As long as you continue eating healthy and sufficient amount of calories (maybe 1600/1800?), you should be okay.

  5. I know nothing about gaining weight during pregnancy. Since I've gained so much during my IF treatments Im hopeful to not gain too much during my pregnancy - though I understand being a little unnerved by not gaining and losing instead. The picture of Bugsy is adorable! I love that he is still cuddled up in J's jeans!

    1. I know how you feel with the weight gain. Years ago J and I started down this path and I think I've put on about 40 pounds with all the treatments.

  6. With my first pregnancy, I didn't start really gaining weight until mid-pregnancy. In the end, I still gained the 20-25 pounds, but I struggled to eat enough to put on the weight. Is there a specific reason you're going with just egg whites rather than whole eggs? I ask because there are some great fats and amino acids in the yolks, good for weight gain and strengthening of the amniotic sack.

The big change in weight gain with my first came when I started putting full fat dressing and cheese on my salads and butter on my rolls (I was obsessed with soup and salad). If possible, you could pair fruit with full fat cheese or veggies with full fat dip/hummus. Fresh + calorie-dense protein is good!

    1. I avoid the egg yolks because that is the part of the egg that I'm actually allergic/sensitive to. I too love soups and salads but have to watch my sodium intake since I went into the pregnancy with high blood pressure.
