Decisions Pending

J and I are still mulling over our options to for the next part of our trying to conceive journey.

I finally got the andrology report.  It is as we feared.  Our procedure took more eggs and created less embryos.

The first two of my labs came back and looked good.  I'm now waiting on the Beta2 Glycoprotein test results.

For J we are still waiting for him to find the time in his busy Army life to get the karyotyping done.  Just because he has plenty of sperm and they look great, for the most part, under the microscope doesn't mean he is the problem or isn't the problem.  But the andrology report kind of points a bit of a finger in his direction as to the why it might have failed.

I'm just hoping it was a fluke.  I'm hoping, believe me I'm truly hoping and praying, that the karyotyping reveals all is well. I'd hate to think that my husband is going to blame himself for the last cycle failing where we all know there are a lot of variables in a pregnancy.  Anything can go wrong after they are transferred.

If we do the donor embryos again it looks like our best option will again be the two guaranteed blastocysts.  Again I'll opt to put both back to up my chances of pregnancy.

If something is really screwy with the karyotyping we'll opt to go donor embryo.  It is way less expensive than adoption but we'll only be getting one embryo. That kind of bothers me.  At my age I'd like to have two embryos due to better odds of having one implant.

For now it is all pending.  Most likely the karyotyping won't get done until next month.  Then we are going to take a much needed vacation in August if all goes well.  Maybe in September we'll make the final decision of what way to go from here.

Oh and still no period.  CD 27.  Do I think I'm pregnant?  Not highly likely.

  1. Adopting an embryo is such a crapshoot - it's attractive because there is less cost and fewer emotions, and of course being able to experience pregnancy. But there are no guarantees that it will implant, which is so scary. No option is a guarantee though, which is what makes this process so draining. (((HUGS))) good luck!

    1. I agree that no option is a guarantee. I know that we have put a lot of money into ART and still have nothing.

  2. It makes me so happy that you guys haven't given up hope yet... I'm still feeling like this BFP will happen before 2013 is over! When you do donor embryos, do you have to pay a fee per embryo? Does it involve getting a donor to cycle and everything or do you just choose from a bank of already frozen blastocysts or whatever?

    2. Oops forgot to finish the answer before I posted. We did a frozen donor egg cycle. Hoping we'll get the chance to do another before the year is out.

  3. Oh I think that it is lame that they have only give you one donor embryo. To be honest I am still shocked that the last transfer did not take. (yes I have been behind in posting and for that I am sorry but I have been keeping up on reading)

I have been fantasying about going on a vaca (just a day trip in to town or some such) and I have yet to do anything that has really fulfilled my hearts desire.

    1. Well they consider the one donor embryo "a gift". Wait I thought gifts were free. But this isn't free and will still cost us thousands.

T, I hope you get the chance for a mini holiday soon.

  5. I hope the karotyping comes back normal. I know it sucks not having answers.

    1. I know right! I have to wait and see what the tests reveal then go from there.

  7. Hoping that you get some direction from this.

Sorry they won't give you more than one donor embryo. There are programs that match couples with embryos, I did a lot of research on donor embryos when we had considered going that route. If you did something like that, maybe you'd be able to transfer more, so that may be something to look into as well?

  9. I hope that hubby's karotyping works out ok. My husband's genetics are fine, but his sperm aren't. My first IVF they retrieved 22 good, mature eggs but we only got 4 decent looking embryos. It sucks :(

Is it possible to do donor sperm and donor eggs to make embryos rather than adopt an embryo?

    1. The doctors weren't too concerned that this morphology was low, which to me was odd. I was told that they select the best sperm. Well and good but if that sperm looks great and it messed up genetically it isn't going to make an embryo that implants.

We have thought about making our own donor embryos and might end up doing just that too. I know J would want a donor that looks like him at least a little.

  16. Oh Rebecca, I am getting misty-eyed. Our two week wait was pretty similar.

I'm hoping whatever went wrong this time for you guys was just a fluke and that the karyotyping shows your Hubby is just fine.

I'm rooting for you and will continue to follow your journey.

  17. I didn't think of the fact that embryo donation only gives you one embryo. Man, I am hoping all the best from these reports. And of course sending you lots of positive vibes. It ain't over til it's over. <3
