My Heart Is Going To Break

I posted this item today at my shop.  I didn't make it of course, but it is vintage.

Yesterday was a decent enough day.  It had its disappointing moments when I realized that the last day of the three day pass was done and we had gone no where.  J hadn't planned a thing.  Not even a gift.  Oh well.

My heart is breaking today.  Not because of yesterday.  No it's because of what I saw on the way to the mail box today.

I thought my eyes were deceiving me.  But no.  I saw true.  It was a scrawny orange and buff colored cat curled up in a ball up against a neighbor's house.  The right eye was puffed up like it had been in a fight.  The two neighbors in that area have cats and I thought perhaps it might have escaped.  I knocked on door and rang the bells.  I heard movement within that was definitely human but none came to the door.  How rude!

Soon a van pulled up, just as I was getting closer to the kitty.  Yes, I was willing to take the cat in  even  if J is allergic to them.  I can't let a helpless creature just go uncared for like this one obviously was.  Well the van scared it across the street.  I chatted with the driver of the van.  Turns out her friend is feeding the cat occasionally and it is a stray.  Think I might just go buy some cat food this week to have on hand for the animal, treats or even a can of tuna.  Maybe someone will take it in.  I know I would if I could coax it indoors.  Tuna is a great way to coax most cats indoors as I've learned in the past.

I want to get that cat to the vet for some attention too.  But I'm not going to sit outside all day and wait. I have nothing to feed it right now.

If you are going to get an animal remember it's a lifetime commitment.  You brought it willingly into your home when you got it from the liter, shelter, or pet store.  I'm pissed at whomever decided to just dispose of their animal.  Makes me want to cry.  If you can't take care of your pet it is not disposable.  Find it a home!

  1. I see this more often than I care to acknowledge. I've worked with animals pretty much my entire working life - animal control, kennel, animal behavior specialist/trainer, veterinary technician, etc. I've seen some outrageously brutal cases and I've witnessed animals who have been treated as though they were more precious than human life itself (in many cases, this is in fact true). It saddens me that there are so many heartless, thoughtless, ignorant people out there. There are many of us who are trying to make a difference but you can't save them all. They die in vain, and it's heart wrenching. Just feel good knowing that you are one of the good people in the world. And thank you!

    1. Thank you for also being kind of heart. I've already contacted my husband and he asked me what he could pick up in the way of food for it. I said of course Tuna and some dry food. Hopefully I can at least feed it if not get it into the house for some shelter and eventually to the vet. I'd rather not have to get a have a heart trap and do it that way but if it really looks sickly I'll do it.

  2. I will never be able to understand why people are so cruel to animals. I wish I could save every one that I come across, but obviously I can't. The most important thing we can do is to donate money to animal rescue groups local and also groups like the ASPCA.

    1. I visit the animal rescue site daily. I've purchased from them before too. We used to get most of our pets from our local ASPCA. I'm just hoping that this cat doesn't get squashed by the traffic.

  3. Animal cruelty really gets my blood boiling. That is why all my charities are animal-related only. I make monthly donations to the ASPCA and WSPA, as well many times a year to WWF and The Humane Society. Thank you for caring about the cat.

    1. I have never understood what makes a human want to hurt or neglect an animal. All the animal wants to do is love the person.

  4. This is horriable! I understand that times are tough. But if you cant or wont take care of your animal then as the human you need to do the right thing and drop them off SAFETLY to a shelter!

My dog, Promise, was born in a shelter after his mothers owner found out she was pregnant and dumped her because they couldnt/ wouldnt deal with her puppies. Then they should have gotten her fixed! GRR

    1. Many places with give out vouchers to have your pet spayed or neutered if you are under a certain income level. Some food shelf places will even give out pet food too. So tell why it's so hard to take care of a pet? It's ridiculous how cruel we humans can be.

  5. Ahh, poor kitty. I took in a lot of strays and tried to find them homes over the years. They are so common here, it's sad. Glad you're nice enough to try and do something for the poor thing!

    1. I'm trying but alas the cat isn't outside today. Hopefully it survived the night. Hopefully someone else is also of a kind nature to feed it.

  6. After the hell I've been through with my dog today this just makes me want to punch someone! Seriously! Ugh. You are awesome for wanting to take care of that poor cat even though the hubby is allergic. I'm sure the cat will thank you for loving it!

    1. J and I are rather kind hearted to animals. We even put out bird seed, suet and corn for the birds and squirrels. One night we had a opossum on our patio. Never seen one in real life until that night.

  7. Poor wee puss. Could you ask your local cats' protection charity to take it in?

    1. I don't think we have a local cat shelter. The one we have here is usually pretty full and it's for both cats and dogs. The problem is that many military just get a pet like a get a new cell phone. It's fun for a while but then they want to upgrade. When the kitten or puppy grows up they don't want it anymore.
